EDITORIAL SERVICES

Yes, I edit, too! I actually LOVE to edit. I know...I'm weird. I love to edit so much I would edit for free, but unfortunately, money makes the world go 'round, so keep reading for information about my editing services, and check out my editing credentials on the next page!

Copy Editing

  • Consists of editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage (affect/effect, then/than, whose/who's), and other typos.
  • Reviews for consistency in the use of numbers, punctuation, and capitalization according to the Chicago Manual of Style, the standard for book publishing.
  • Includes correcting inconsistencies in time, place, characters ages, the spelling of their names, etc.

Content Editing

  • Consists of an in-depth edit of plot structure. An example of this would be moving sentences, paragraphs, or chapters, if needed, to improve flow, maintain clarity, and/or to establish a logical sequence of events.
  • Reviews for plot holes, pacing, POV (head hopping), awkward phrasing, wordiness, and repetition.
  • Includes suggesting alternative use of words or phrasing of sentences, if necessary, for reasons of clarity and/or affect.
  • With that said, content editing is not meant to rewrite or change your story, but to prepare your story for publication by ensuring that it is clear, concise, and well-written.

Proof Reading

  • A final read through for spelling, capitalization, punctuation, grammar errors, and other typos.
Most editors offer levels of editing. When I'm editing a manuscript (or even when I'm reading a book for enjoyment) I can't help but notice wordiness, head-hopping, inconsistencies in the plot, as well as typos, mis-spelled or mis-used words, or awkward phrasing, and it's hard for me to ignore these things. Therefore, when I edit, my first pass-through will consist of a copy edit and a content edit simultaneously, unless you specify otherwise. After you review the edits, if you decide you want a second pass- through, I consider that a proof read.

Prices
First pass - copy/content editing: $.0035/word
Second pass - proof reading: $.002/word

Manuscript Formatting*
Microsoft Word 2003 or higher
Double-spaced
 12-point  Times New Roman
1 inch margins
Clearly marked chapters and scene changes

*Although I am not a publisher it is easier on the eyes and the brain if the manuscript is neatly formatted. It will also be helpful to you when you submit to a publisher.

For those of you who intend to self-publish and need your manuscript formatted accordingly, I highly recommend  Taylor James, a self-published author who does all her own formatting and loves it!  E-mail Taylor at: taylorjamesmail@gmail.com. Please include "ebook formatting" in the subject line.  Thanks!
